Pir Syed Ghulam Moin ul Haq Gilani was born in a very pious and enlightened family. He received his Quranic education from Maulvi Fateh Muhammad and learned Persian language and grammar from Maulvi Allah Bkhsh Matthialv. Both these teachers were renowned scholars and eminent men of knowledge. According to Pir Ghulam Moin ul Haq his uncle Pir Ghulam Moinuddin Gilani (RA) took great pains in teaching him calligraphy and mastering the art of perfectly drawing the geometrical shapes of Persian script and aligning the words. He received initial education in Arabic grammar and syntax from his respected father Pir Shah Abdul Haq. He completed his religious education at the hands of Mufti Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Head teacher of Jamia Ghousia Mehria Golra Sharif and modern education through Koh-i- Noor High School and Sir Syed Degree College Rawalpindi.

Protector of the ideological and faith

As a young man Pir Ghulam Moin ul Haq Gilani heard a great deal from the people around him about the intellectual and spiritual accomplishments of his great grandfather Hadhrat Pir Syed Mehr Ali Shah (RA). This knowledge illuminated his heart and soul with the light of faith and firm belief in divine wisdom. This illumination of his soul touched his being in such a way that he started feeling the strength of an inwardly enlightened person.

Because of his words and deeds he is known as the true keeper and protector of the ideological and faith based heritage of Pir Syed Mehr Ali Shah (RA) among the masses. He is continuously engaged in spreading the intellectual and spiritual teachings of his highly respected and accomplished great grandfather. He has emerged as the true representative of Ahli Sunnat Waljamaat in the masses. He has highly motivated and inspired the Ahli Sunnat scholars to conduct research to spread the teachings of their faith. Publication of monthly magazine Mehr- i- Munir is a milestone in this regard. He is Patron-in-Chief of this magazine. He has authored and published many books in service of his faith as well. His publications include the following.

Aiwan e Mehr Ali

Pir Syed Ghulam Moin ul Haq Gilani founded Aiwan e Mehr Ali Shah Trust to spread the teachings and intellectual heritage of Pir Mehr Ali Shah (RA). Trust has published scores of books since its inception. Research and education are integral part of the Trust’s activities.

On 27 August 2000 Pir Moin ul Haq Gilani arranged a grand convention in Aiwan-e-Iqbal Lahore to commemorate the historic debate led by Hadhrat Pir Mehr Ali Shah (RA) to defend the doctrine of finality of prophet hood of Prophet Mohammad Sallalah o Alehi Wsallam against the false claims of prophet hood by Mirza Ghulam Ahmed Qadiani. This debate was arranged on Mirza Ghulam Ahmed’s own invitation on 24 August 1900 in Badshahi Mosque Lahore. When all the eminent religious scholars of the entire Indian sub-continent gathered for the debate under the leadership of Hadhrat Pir Mehr Ali Shah (RA) in the Mosque Mirza Sahib reneged on his decision to join the debate and practically conceded his defeat. The Convention in year 2000 was arranged to refresh the memories of this great spiritual gathering and remind the present generation of the enormous struggle, sacrifices and Jihad by pen led by Hadhrat Pir mehr Ali Shah (RA) to defend Islamic faith during the most challenging period of Muslim history in India.

In 1973 Pir Syed Ghulam Moin ul Haq Gilani (RA) made pledge of allegiance (Baet) to his grandfather Hadhrat Babuji in Masjid-i-Nabvi (Prophet’s Mosque) in the holy city of Medina. On his way back to Pakistan, he visited the shrine of Ghous e Azam Hadhrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani in Baghdad Sharif and his Nikah ceremony was performed at the shrine with his paternal cousin and daughter of Hadhrat Ghulam Moinuddin Gilani (RA). In 1978 his wedding took place in an elegant and grand ceremony. In 1997 his father Pir Syed Shah Abdul Haq Gilani permitted him to take pledge of alliance from the seekers of Sufi path.

Eleventh evening of each lunar month

Allah has blessed him with three sons and a daughter. His eldest son Mehr Farid ul Haq Gilani has completed his Master’s degree from National University of Modern Languages. Next in line is Mehr Masood ul Haq Gilani who is an undergrad student and is receiving religious education as well. His youngest son Mehr Jawad ul Haq Gilani is getting religious education and leaning Quran by heart.

Right from his college days Pir Moin ul Haq had a strong desire to establish an institution of higher learning in the name of his great grandfather Pir Syed Mehr Ali Shah (RA). His wish was granted when Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a bill in 2007 to name Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi after Pir Mehr Ali Shah (RA).

On the eleventh evening of each lunar month a heartwarming spiritual ceremony to nourish the souls and hearts of the devotees is arranged at Dera Ghousia Mehria Golra Sharif by Syed Gilani.

In this ceremony lectures on the teachings of Prophet Muhammed and other Sufi Masters are arranged followed by devotional music. Food is served after the ceremony. It is a healing experience for the bodies and souls of the devotees. In the vast circle of these devotees Pir Moin ul Haq is known as the “Prince of Ghous e Azam”. He strictly follows the teachings and values of his noble forefathers. He often says that “we are only known because of Pir Mehr Ali Shah (RA), without him we have no identity”.
